PB-05 MD

The PB-05 MD is an automatic microphone switch featuring an optical proximity sensor and selectable attenuation—ranging from -16 dB to -42 dB in the "Mic Off" state—to accommodate use with either in-ear monitoring systems or conventional stage monitors. The device is simply connected between the microphone and the microphone cable. An active infrared sensor on the front panel detects when someone is in front of the microphone, switching it on silently. When no one is present in front of the microphone, it is automatically switched off. A small push-button on the top allows the microphone to be manually switched on permanently whenever desired. The detection range can be adjusted between approximately 20 cm and 80 cm using a trim potentiometer. To prevent accidental adjustment during a performance, the potentiometer knob can be removed, allowing for fine-tuning via a small screwdriver. A red status LED indicates the operating state of the Optogate. The PB-05 MD operates on 48V phantom power; condenser microphones requiring up to 10 mA can be used with the unit without any issues, as the phantom power is passed through to the microphone. The device eliminates unwanted background noise from instruments entering unused microphones, while significantly enhancing the clarity and dynamics of the intended signal by reducing phase cancellation and interference from other microphones.
